"The Sons of Liberty" and "The 8th Day" both appeared as Special Guest Performers on Tuesday, March 25 at the Vineyard Cafe in Wheeling, WV. They appeared as part of John Rasz and Friends Rock and Roll Night. John Rasz, senior pastor, at the Wheeling Vineyard Church played keyboards in both groups. The Vineyard Cafe meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays at the Vineyard Church, 135 Waddles Run Road, Wheeling, WV. The cafe normally features Open Microphone from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and "Up Close In Concert" from 9:00 to 10 p.m. For more information visit their web site www.vineyard-cafe.com. For this event, Open Mic was held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.,"The Sons of Liberty" and "The 8th Day" were in concert from 8:00-9:00 p.m. and John Rasz and Friends where featured at "Up Close In Concert" from 9:00-10:00 p.m. "The Sons of Liberty" took the stage at 8:00 p.m. and performed songs from the 60's and 70's, including their Gateway Records release and local hit "Love Babe!". Original band members, Dave Buhl (guitar), Frank DeFede (guitar), Glenn Reasner (bass guitar), John Rasz (keyboards) were joined by Gregg Molnar (guitar) and Roger Reynolds (drums). Roger is the husband of Melanie Reynolds (Ross) who is a member of "The 8th Day. The group was greated with a standing ovation. It was like they were the top band in the world and the whole room was filled with thunderous applause even yelling and screaming. After "The Sons of Liberty" finished their set, Melanie Ross and Nancy Petit joined the group and "The 8th Day" peformed four of the songs off of the Kapp Records Albumn "On The 8th Day". They sang "Brandy", "A Million Lights", "Raining Sunshine" and "Building With A Steeple". The hamony was tremendous and they also recieved thunderous applause after each song. The hour went buy so quickly. At 9 p.m., John Rasz and Friends took the stage. The group was composed of "The Sons of Liberty", "The 8th Day" and other friends. There were a total of twelve musicians in this part of the concert. The audience was very enthusiastic and sang along, clapped, danced and cheared throughout the concert. The event had been moved from the normal cafe room to the main auditorium to accomadate the large crowd exspected. It was triple the size of largest audience that have attended previous cafe's. Almost Heaven, West Virginia moved a whole step closer to the real thing, at least for these rock and roll fans. |
